Decryptr

A crypto backtester that needs no code

The Decryptr backtester tests a trading idea against past data without writing code. Build entry and exit rules from price, news, whale and call inputs, choose the coins and the dates, and see how the strategy would have done, after trading costs. A backtest is a record of the past, not a prediction.

Build a strategy from rules

Pick up to 5 coins, add entry and exit rules, and the backtester replays the history bar by bar. Rules can use price, news, whale activity and what traders on Decryptr called, grouped with and/or logic, up to 8 rules in a strategy.

  • Bar sizes from 1 minute to 1 day, with history from Hyperliquid candles.
  • Leverage up to 10x, with a warning from 3x, because leverage cuts both ways.
  • Fees and slippage are included, with defaults for Hyperliquid, Binance and Coinbase that you can change.

Honest about what a backtest is

A strategy tuned until it fits the past will usually look better than it will trade. Decryptr shows the trades, the drawdown and the costs so that you can see how a result was reached, not only the headline number.

Hypothetical results have limits: they are made with hindsight, do not reflect real fills, and past performance does not predict future results.

How to read a result

Look past the total return. Check the maximum drawdown, the number of trades, how long the strategy sat in losing runs and how much of the result came from one or two trades. A strategy that depends on a single lucky week is not telling you much.

Then try the same rules on a different period and on a different coin. If the result falls apart, the first test was probably fitting noise.

Limits that keep it fair

Inputs are offered only once they have enough history, and runs are capped per day so the data stays available to everyone.

Questions

What is a crypto backtest?

A crypto backtest runs a trading strategy over past price data to see what it would have done. It shows how an idea behaved in the past, not how it will behave.

Do I need to code to backtest on Decryptr?

No. You build entry and exit rules from a list of inputs, with no code.

Which plan includes the backtester?

The backtester is on Decryptr X, £19.99 a month or £191.99 a year.

Are fees and slippage included?

Yes. Each venue has default fees and slippage, which you can change.

Does a good backtest mean a strategy is profitable?

No. Backtests are hypothetical, made with hindsight, and past performance does not predict future results.

Decryptr is not financial advice and does not tell anyone what to buy or sell. Past calls and past results do not predict future ones. Cryptoassets are high risk. Read the risk warning.
