DecryptrBot

DecryptrBot is the link-preview fetcher for Decryptr. When someone posts a link, it visits that page once to read its title, description and preview image, so the post can show a small card for the link.

What it is

It is not a search crawler. It does not index your site, follow links from it, or build any record of it beyond the preview for the one link that was shared.

When it visits

Only when a Decryptr user posts a link to your page. It fetches that page once, then keeps the preview for 7 days, so the same link shared again in that time does not fetch the page again.

What it reads

  • Only the head of the page: its title, description and preview image (the Open Graph and Twitter card tags, or the plain title and description).
  • It does not run scripts, load the rest of the page, sign in, or submit anything.
  • It copies the preview image to our own storage and shows that copy, so people viewing the post do not load it from your server.

Its limits

  • It follows at most 3 redirects.
  • It gives up after 5 seconds.
  • It reads at most 1 MB of a page.

Opting out

If you would rather DecryptrBot did not fetch previews from your site, email support@decryptr.ai with your domain and we will stop. Links to your site will then show as plain links.
