DecryptrDevelopers

Quickstart

Get a Decryptr API key and make your first request in curl, JavaScript or Python, then read what it cost.

1. Get a key

Sign in to Decryptr, or create a free account. The Developer plan needs no card.

Open Your API keys and create a key. Pick the scopes it needs. For this guide, analytics:read and sentiment:read are enough.

Copy the key when it is shown. It is shown once. Keep it in an environment variable or a secret store, never in code you commit.

Get an API key
Terminal
export DECRYPTR_API_KEY="dcr_live_..."

2. Make a request

Ask for the three trending coins on Decryptr over the last 24 hours. It costs 3 calls, 1 for each coin returned.

curl "https://data.decryptr.ai/v1/trending/coins?window=24h&limit=3" \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer $DECRYPTR_API_KEY"

The response:

{
  "data": [
    { "rank": 1, "asset": "BTC", "posts": 240, "posters": 80, "posts_previous": 200, "velocity_pct": 20 },
    { "rank": 2, "asset": "ETH", "posts": 190, "posters": 65, "posts_previous": 160, "velocity_pct": 15 },
    { "rank": 3, "asset": "SOL", "posts": 140, "posters": 50, "posts_previous": 120, "velocity_pct": 10 }
  ],
  "as_of": "2026-10-23T12:06:30.000Z",
  "window": "24h",
  "disclaimer": "Crowd and model output, not a recommendation. Information only, not financial advice."
}

Free keys see data that is 60 minutes behind live. Paid plans read in real time.

3. Read what it cost

Every response says what it cost and what you have left:

X-Request-Id: 3f6c2a8e-6a1f-4c1e-9d2b-0a5e7c1d9b42
X-Decryptr-Cost: 3
X-RateLimit-Remaining: 17
X-Quota-Limit: 1000
X-Quota-Remaining: 997

One call is one item returned or asked for, not one HTTP request. Now ask for up to 10 daily caller sentiment points for Bitcoin:

curl "https://data.decryptr.ai/v1/sentiment/BTC?limit=10" \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer $DECRYPTR_API_KEY"

You asked for up to 10 and 7 came back, so the response says X-Decryptr-Cost: 7. Before the request runs, the API checks that the 10 you asked for fit in what you have left. If you had only 6 calls left, it would be refused with 429 and cost nothing; ask for limit=6 instead. Rate limits and quotas has the full rules.

4. Next

  • Use a dcr_test_ key while you build. It returns a fixed sample and never uses calls. See Authentication.
  • Page through long lists with cursor. See Pagination.
  • Handle 429 with a backoff. See Rate limits and quotas.
  • Check your plan and calls used for free with GET https://data.decryptr.ai/v1/usage.
  • Try a Developer-plan market data call, such as GET https://data.decryptr.ai/v1/market/candles?asset=BTC&timeframe=1h&limit=5. The response carries its attribution and source, so keep those with the data. Market data is served during a testing phase.
  • Browse every endpoint in the API reference, including news signals, social, calendar and streams.
